The Stakes

A Mirror, A Threshold, A Song, by Tatiana Chaterji, gathers more than five years of theater and restorative justice work in California prisons into a curriculum for teaching artists. Partners for Collaborative Change needed it designed for facilitators guiding individual and collective healing.

The Constraints

• More than five years of practice to shape into one usable curriculum.
• Teaching artists using it in real-time practice inside prisons.

Key Decisions

• Design from the title. I used mirrored images, reflected text, and harmonious color drawn from the curriculum's title and principles.
• Concepts made visual. Those choices evoke the curriculum's central ideas: self-awareness, personal expression, and community healing.

The Outcome

The curriculum is published in print and as a digital book, available to teaching artists and programs.
