Artist as First Responder

The Stakes

Artist as First Responder supports Black, Indigenous, and People of Color artists as community healers. Whole Story needed a deck to present the program and its vision.

The Constraints

• An unfamiliar idea at the center, artists as first responders, that the deck had to make tangible.
• Content spanning the program's pillars, services, and participant stories.

Key Decisions

• Sci-fi meets ancestral. I took cues from science fiction movie posters, Indigenous artwork, and Afrofuturism to frame artists' healing work as forward-looking.
• Hand-drawn over satellite imagery. Hand-drawn elements layered over satellite images of city lights and space show the reach of artists' work, from neighborhoods to the globe.
